MACFARLANE DIES.
MOUNT ALBERT TRAGEDY.
SEMT-INTXICTED " INJURIES,
DEATH YESTERDAY MORNING
George Macfarlane, aged SO, who killed his housekeeper, Miss Emily Constance Chappell, aged 45, with a tomahawk, at his home in Mount Royal Avenue, Mount Albert, last Thursday morning, died at 7.15 yesterday morning in the Auckland Hospital.
Found sitting in his bedroom after having cut his throat immediately after his frenzied attack on Miss Chappell, Macfarlane was admitted to the hospital in a grave condition. He never really rallied. He was the son of an old Scottish settler, who was married to a Maori princess, Otiliia, at Kawhia, in the early days. He was a keen gardener and a student of politics.
