KUMEU.

There was a large attendance at the monthly meeting held in Kumeu Hall. Mrs. Lambdore presided. It was decided to have a social afternoon and bring and buy fair for the November meeting to raise funds for a local Christmas tree. Mr. Hays, of Auckland, gave an interesting and instructive address on all branches of gardening, most helpful to the amateur gardener. He also invited questions and members availed themselves of the opportunity to obtain professional information. Several members brought plants and flowers to be named. Mr. Hays also judged the competitions for best arranged vase of flowers, also best bulb flower, and congratulated the exhibitors on the beautiful collection of blooms. The results were:— arranged vase, Mrs. S. Bell 1, Mrs. H. Bull 2. Bulb flower: Mrs. Douglas Hill 1, with a very fine exhibit of Clivead Nobilio, Mrs. H. Bull 2. Recipes were given by Mesdames Farley, Harris and Cates. A competition arranged by Mrs. Simpson, who also donated the prize, was won by Miss Dave. It was announced that the sewing circle had disbanded for the summer months and Mrs. Harris and her band of workers were congratulated on their winter's work. One hundred and fifty garments were distributed locally and 580 garments sent to social workers in Auckland. The hostesses were Mesdames Ball, Lynch, F. Smith and Deane.
