CUSTOMS TARIFF.
CONFERENCE PROPOSED. TO FACILITATE REVISION. .MOVE BY IMPORTERS. A conference to discuss the tariff question was suggested by the Chairman of the Wellington Importers'. Association, Mr. Edwin Salmond, at a- meeting of the council on Friday. Mr. Salmond drew attention , to the controversy which was occurring in rs gard to the proposed revision of ,wCustoms tariff. The Government «as being bombarded with conflicting repieeentations worn different bodies and h believed that this was haying the, of making its already difficult task great deal more difficult. : ~ Business men generally, irrespective of the particular section of the community to which they belonged, w agreed on the necessity balanced, well-modelled tariff, * '• mond 6aid, and he believed tha present time was opportune for a ference between the different bodies terested in the Customs tariff or purpose of overcoming difficulty reconciling conflicting views, with a vi to assisting the Government and tating the revision of the tarin.
