WHITEBAIT REGULATIONS. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON", this day. Regulations governing whitebait fishing, which were gazetted to-day, provide for a close season in the North Island from November 15 to June 30. In the following year hand nets with mouths of greater diameter will be prohibited, except in the Waikato River, where 6ft is the limit. The use of set nets is prohibited, except in Hawke's Bay and certain other waters. The regulations provide for settling claims to sites for fishing. The use of boats for whitebait fishing is prohibited. A distance of two chains is provided for between each whitebait fisher.
