APPLE TRADE DULL. BANANAS IN SHORTER SUPPLY. ASPARAGUS VERY CHEAP. The demand for pears was poor this week, many lines being in unsatisfactory condition. Larger supplies of apples were sent in, with the result that prices eased and the demand was dull. Mandarins, ex the steamer from Sydney, met with good demand where condition was satisfactory. Some lines, however, were wasty. As only, a small quantity of passion fruit was sent across higher prices were obtained. Pines also realised good prices. Island tomatoes to hand this week met with good demand. Hothouse were cheaper. Bananas are in short supply and values increased. Loquats: Australian, 6/ to 9/. Oranges: Valencias, 8/ to 12/6; common Sydney's, 6/ to 9/. Lemons: 4/ to 8/. Tree Tomatoes: 3/ to 5/6; Black, 6/ io 7/6. Tomatoes: Hothouse, lOd to 1/3 lb; Island, repacked, ripe, 9/ to 11/6 case. Grapes: Calit'ornian, white, 25/ keg; red, 27/6 to 30/ keg. Bananas: No. 1, repacks, up to 29/6; No. 2 and medium, 17/ to 27/6. Strawberries: Up to 3/2 per chip. Island oranges, according to count, 15/ to 18/. Vegetables. A few local green peas came forward, and there were heavy supplies to hand from Sydney. Fair quantities of local new potatoes were sent in, but prices were well maintained. Pumpkins are now getting in short_ supply. _ Cabbage and cauliflower are still plentiful. Asparagus was in over-supply, and sold cheaper than has been the case for several years. Quotations are:— Potatoes, Southern, 8/ to 9/ cwt; new, lMd to 3%d lb; onions, Canadian, 23/ to 25/ cental; kumaras, Island, 8/6 to 9/ cwt; Tauranga, 6/ to 7/6 cwt; cabbage, 1/ to 4/ sack; cauliflower, 2/6 to 7/6 sack; swedes, 1/6 to 2/6 bag; pumpkins, 5/ to 12/6 cwt; green peas, 5d to 9d lb; beans, hothouse, 8d to 1/9 lb; lettuce, 1/ to 4/6 case; cucumbers, hothouse, 4/ to 7/ dozen; vegetable marrows, 1/6 to 3/ dozen; cabbag6, loose, 1/ to 3/ dozen; cauliflower, loose, 1/6 to 2/6 dozen; celery, 6d to 1/9 bundle; rhubarb, 1/6 to 4/6 dozen; spinach, 6d to 1/3 dozen; pumpkins, loose, 4d to l/ 3 each; radish, 6d dozen; spring onions, 6d to 1/ bundle; carrots, parsnips, beet and turnips, 4d to 8d dozen; asparagus, heavy supplies, 4d to 7d bundle; leeks, 2cl to 6d bundle; chokos, 9d to 1/3 dozen; Brussels sprouts, 2V6d to 3%d lb. Eggs and Butter. Supplies of eggs continue heavy, while the demand is still only moderate. Prices are unchanged for duck and hen eggs:— First grade, 10% d per dozen; B grade, 9%d; and C grade, 7%d. Farmers' butter sells at B%d to ll%d per lb. Poultry. At to-day's auctions the supply of poultry was medium, and the demand was fair. The prices paid remain about level. Selling rates were as follow:— Cockerels: Heavy breeds, prime 3/6 to 5/6 each, not prime 2/ up; light breeds, prime 3/ to 4/, not prime 1/6 up. Fat roosters: Heavy breeds, prime, 1/9 to 2/6; light breeds, 1/3 to 1/9. Fat hens: Heavy breeds, 2/6 to 3/3; light breeds, 1/6 to 2/. Pullets: Heavy breeds, best, 2/6 to 3/6; light breeds, best, 2/6 to 3/6. Drakes: Young, prime 2/6 to 3/6, smaller 1/ up. Ducks: Young; 1/6 to 2/6; old, 1/3 to Drakes: Old, 1/3 to l/ 9. Geese: 2/6 to 3/6. Turkey liens:, 4/ to 6/; gobblers, 5/ to 12/. Cockerel chicks: Heavy breeds, 6d to 2/; light breeds, Id to 1/6. Day-old chicks: 8.0., 4%d to 6d; L., 4%d to 6d. Guinea fowls: 2/6 to 3/6.
