TO-NIGHT'S CHANGES. Four pictures new to Auckland will be introduced at city theatres this evening. The Civic will screen "So Big," Barbara Stanwyck's dramatic version of Edna Ferber's stirring novel; the Regent will offer the first Australian talkie, "The Sentimental Bloke," from the immortal poem by C. J. Dennis; the St. James' will present Marie Dressler's latest comic-dramatic vehicle, "Emma," while the Plaza will show James Cagney's first picture, "The Crowd Roars." The National is continuing the season from the Regent of Ruth Chat--1 terton's "The Rich Are Always With Us." The Majestic changed programme las| evening and the Rosy and Tivoli on Wednesday. The Strand will continue to screen Constance Bennett's "What Price Hollywood?" for a further season. AUSTIN CAR FILM. A lengthy picture descriptive of the rise of the motor car from an object of ridicule to a regular and almost indispensable article in civilisation will be screened finally at the Tivoli Theatre to-morrow during the day sessions. The film, which is entitled "This Progress," gives some very interesting sidelights on the production of modern motor cars. REVUE AT HOSPITAL. Last evening in Ward 3 of the Public Hospital the Neville Carlsen Revue Company gave a show to patients, nurses and friends, the contributing artists including Mme. V. Paskell, Mesdames J. Holt and N. Carlsen, Misses J. Tucker, W. Lockwood, N. Ashdown, Messrs. B. Little, W. Audain, F. R. Shaw, E. Parkinson, W. Baker, N. Carlsen and Master A. Parkinson. Mrs. Holt acted as accompanist. Miss W. Lockwood delighted the audience with several entertaining contortionist tricks. WESTMERE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA The Westmere Symphony Orchestra gave its second 1932 concert in the Westmere Hall, under the baton of Miss Beryl E. Debenham. The fine programme was enthusiastically received. The assisting vocalists were Miss Gwenda Weir and Mr. Arthur Debenham, who.were encored in their duet and solo numbers. Mrs. Henderson, Mr. Herbert Barrington and Mr. Alan Pow proved efficient accompanists. Mrs. Arthur Debenham welcomed the guests. HOSPITAL CONCERT. The weekly concert arranged by Mrs. Raeburn and Mr. A. Hamblin was given in Ward 26 of the Public Hospital on Wednesday evening. The concert party was under the direction of the Rev. Arthur Mitchell, and the programme consisted of songs, duets, violin solos and recitations. Quite a number of patients were present from other wards. Those taking part were: Mrs. Kersey, Misses Foster, fiendra and Slade, Messrs. R. Errington and Parsons and Rev. A. Mitchell. Miss Slade acted as accompanist. COMMUNITY SINGING. The usual gathering will be held by the Auckland Community Singing Committee in the Lewis Eady Hall this evening at 7.30, when Mr. Vernon T. Drew, will act as song leader. Miss Moore will sing and Mrs. Barrington Snow will be at the piano. "SUNSHINE SUSIE" BALL. A plain and fancy dress ball will be held in the Dixieland Cabaret next Wednesday, the proceeds to be devoted to charities to be nominated by the Mayor, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, who has signified his patronage. The event is being organised in connection with the early local screening of the new British romantic film, "Sunshine Susie."
