TRIALS AT ELLERSLIE.

PREPARING FOR AVONDALE. SEVERAL GOOD EFFORTS RECORDED. Conditions at Ellerslie this morning were perfect for training, the weather being fine and. the course in excellent order. No. 1 grass track was open for fast work, and there was a fair amount of galloping, the best efforts of the morning being registered by Croupier, Catoma, Gay Cockade, Mahkill and Tarporley. The stable mates, Ruling King and Supreme Ruler, were first out, doing strong work over a round, which occupied 2.12 2-5, the last half-mile taking 57 2-ss. They were 'not doing th'eir best at any part of the journey. The Tea Tray—Taiamai filly trotted round to the thrbe-furlong post and ran home in 43 3-ss. On Approval, who had the worst of the weights, was doing better than Sir Val at the end of half a mile, run in 51 3-se. Both these hacks have improved a lot during the past few weeks. Wee Pat completed a fivefurlong task in 1.5, the Kilbroney—Miss Hazel gelding assisting her over the last three, which occupied 37 4-£#. Llanore traversed half a mile in 51 l-ss. She was running on strongly at the finish. Mahkill began more quickly than usual from the six-furlong post, running her first three furlongs in 375, and covered the full distance in 1.17 1-5. Gay Broney joined her over the last half-mile, which was run in 51 4-ss. Gay Broney is showing encouraging form for a novice. Clontarf Bill put a lot of dash into a half mile effort, which occupied 525« He carried over 10.0, and it was a good performance for a hunter. Imamint was timed to run three furlongs in 38 3-ss. She had a lot of pace on when she jumped off, and went fast over the first furlong, but was steaded up after turning into the straight. Hampton Park had Ornamental as a companion over five furlongs and was holding her safely at the finish in 1.6 2-5. Hawthorn was given an easy "six furlongs, which he completed in 1.22 3-5. Marchette strode home from the three furlongs in 42 3-ss, and Claremore sprinted four furlongs in 51 2-ss. He carried a very light weight, but his performance was quite satisfactory for a jumper. Others to do useful work were: Zane Grey, Court Haven, Chief Emerald, Wee Music, Deputy Ruler, Thunderstorm, Patutahi, Waiata, Poi, Kiltowyn, Bramptqn, Angie, Lady Winifrede, United, Solomon, Glon Romney and Lord Aintree. Jumpers. Absent (Craddock) jumped four hurdles without mistake and afterwards negotiated the steeplechase fences on the flat in pleasing style.
