BRADMAN'S CONTRACT

Control Board Upholds PlayerWriter Ban. McNAMEE AND McCABE IN FORM SYDNEY, October 2. Don Bradman's application to be allowed to fulfil the terms of his contract, a portion of which binds him to write for Associated Newspapers, Limited, has been refused by the Australian Cricket Board of Control. Bradman stated that he could not truthfully say his sole occupation was journalism, in which event he would have escaped the player-writer ban. Also he emphasised that there was another party to the contract—the sports goods firm by whom he is employed part of his time. He insisted that he must fulfil the terms of the contract which was made at a time when he received a lucrative offer to play in England. Associated Newspapers, Limited, has offered to release Bradman from writing on the subject of first-class cricket.
