VETERANS' HOME
INCREASING COMPLEMENT. SOLDIERS OF GREAT WAR. The possibility of increasing the mimI ber of inmates of the Veterans' Home, and of admitting , soldiers of the Great War, was mentioned at a meeting of the Patriotic and War Relief Association yesterday afternoon. It was reported that the present number of inmates was 20, and tho approximate Weekly cost per veteran £1 5/. The veterans of the Maori War and earlier wars were beeoming fewer in number, and it wae clear that the time was approaching when there would not be eligible veterans of these campaigns requiring attention by the institution. "In these circumstances," eaid the report, "neeeesitious men of the Great War will be eligible and will no doubt from time to time be admitted, to ultimately complete the full complement of the home, which, from the present number of 26, can reasonably, with the present building accommodation, be increased to 40. However, by providing separate, quarters for the superintendent the accommodation will be suitable for 60 inmates." It was explained by Sir James Gunson, chairman, that the complement had not been increased in tho past because of the finance available, but he thought that the association was now in a position to do so by stages. It could bo taken that the report indicated progressive development of the complement.
