DAIRY PRODUCE.
Increase in Butter, Decrease In Cheese. LOWER MARKET PRICE. CANBERRA, September 22. The annual report of the Australian Dairy Produce Control Board reveals the fact that 91,086 tons of butter were exported from thie country last year, being an increase of 17,335 tons over the exports for the previous year. Of the total 83,973 tons went to the United Kingdom. The average weekly price of the butter shipped to June 30, 1932, was £5 4/6 a cwt, compared with £5 16/ in the year 1930-31, The lower price was due to the depression and to increased Continental competition. The report states that the quality of the butter exported was high and there wag an entire absence of .complaint. Australia's exports of cheese totalled 3378:, tons, which was slightly the total for the previous year.- The board emphasises that as a result of the Ottawa preferences on butter, cheeee and eggs, local and Dominion exporters should obtain a still larger share of British trade in future.
