Canadian Exports Exceed Total Imports. IMPORTANT TRADE REVIEW. • " 1 (Received 12 noon.) OTTAWA, September 21. During the 12 months ended in August, Canada's excess of exports over imports was to the value of 38,684,390 dollars, whereas for the year ended August, 1931, the excess of imports over exports was valued at 45,132,042 dollars, and for the year ended August, 1930, the excess of imports was 103,506,231. This information is contained in a report issued by the Dominion Bureau of Statistics. Trade with the United Kingdom is responsible for the favourable balance. During 1931-32 the excess of exports to Britain over imports was 75,335,916 dollars, with 64,461,488 for the previous 12 months. Imports from the United States exceeded exports to that country in the last 12 months by 8,622,709, as compared with 170,471,489 dollars for the previous* year. The position is undoubtedly the best held by the Dominion since 1928, says the Bureau of Statistics, and is largely due to two main factors, namely,'the lack of foreign competition and the price levels being on a sound export basis.
