ASSAULT ALLEGED.
SHEPHERD FOUND ON ROADWAY. , POLICE INVESTIGATING. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent!) THAMES, Wednesday. Mr. J. Blade, aged about 23, employed as a shepherd by Mr. A. Howell, of Mahakirau Valley, was found lying unconscious on the road about eight miles from Mercury Bay on Saturday night by a youth named Strong. The man was conveyed by car to the Mercury Bay Hospital. It is understood that Blade was the victim of a brutal assault by three or four young men, who waylaid him and set upon him. He was rendered unconscious. Blade has recovered sufficiently to leave hospital, but is still suffering from facial injuries and numerous body bruises. ' The police are investigating.
