NZ. AMATEUR TITLE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Wednesday. Xlio New Zealand amateur billiards championships were continued to-day, when the ttrst round was concluded. The holder ot the title, A. Duncan {Wellington), beat A. h. Hood (Milton) easily by 006 to 382, although Hood played doggedly when well behind. The first game of the second round was between A. Howie (Dunedin) and 13. N. Stewart (Dunedin). Bowie had a comfortable win by 000 to 377. His score included breaks of 11- and 57, and Stewart's a good OS. Duncan (006) beat Hood (382), and Bowie (000) beat Stewart (377). SNOOKER CHAMPIONSHIP. There was a surprise in the Central Billiards Hoom lust night, when one of New Zealand's best snooker players, F. Bax, was defeated in two straight games by H. Vern. Bax was very unfortunate in going in off the pink in the second game when he only wanted two to win. Vern waited for his opportunities, which he took advantage of. Bax was not playing with any luck or confidence, and the final score was:—ll. Vern, 02 and 74; Bax, 30 and 55. T. MacGarvie defeated B. Thompson by two games to one, the scores being:— MacGarvie, 75, 67, and 73; Thompson, 34, 70, and 30. The third contest of the evening was between L. Martin and A. Porter, the lastnamed winning by two straight games. The score was:—s4 and 01 against 45 and 57. The draw for this evening is:—B. Burleigh v. C. Stone, G. Bashaiu v. T. Lawson, and J. Hooper v. W. Knott. TEAMS' TOURNAMENT. There was a good attendance at the snooker competition last evening, when J. Mundy's team and E. V. Roberts' team met In the teams tournament. Chapman narrowly won two games out of three in his match against Beatb. Morrison proved superior to Golding, the former scoring 200 points in three games. Brilliant potting by Martin in his game against Porter gave his team a lead of 00 points. In the final, Roberts defeated Mnndy after a brilliant exhibition. The aggregate scores were: Koberts, 664: Mundjr, 632. The tournament will be continued this evening, when J. Smith's team will meet S. Falkner's team.
