NOT MUCH BENEFIT.
Ottawa Will Not Develop Empire Economic Unity. PROFESSOR COPLAND'S VIEW. (Received 10 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. Professor D. B. Copland expressed the opinion that the agreements made at Ottawa will not lead to the development of the Empire as an economic unit. He said that only one-third of Australia's export trade went to Britain, and of that amount half had to be sold at the world's parity prices. One-sixth of the Australian export trade would benefit from the preferential duties of 10 per cent. The benefit to Australia would be approximately £1,500,000.
