CONNECTING ROAD.
WHANGAKATA TO POKENO. (From Our Own Correspondent) PUKEKOHE, Monday. The question of an early completion of the new road between Whangarata and Pokeno was before the Franklin County Council to-day. The Franklin agency of the Auckland Automobile Association inquired when the road would be proceeded with, and urged that unemployed be placed on the work. The county clerk, Mr. A. P. Day, said the work was delayed owing to lack of funds. The road had lately been declared a main highway, and the Highways Board had agreed to subsidise the coet of bridges on a basis of £2 for £1, and metallinji at the rate of £1 for £1, when funds would permit. It was hoped to have the bridges erected this summer, and the road opened if possible, and some arrangements made for the metalling.
