POST OFFICE WANTED.
PETITION FROM ROYAL OAK. SMALL BUILDING SUGGESTED. An effort is being made to have the post office reinstated at the Eoyal Oak, Onehunga. For some years the Government rented a room in the building at Eoyal Oak, and once known as the Royal Oak Hotel. The accommodation, however, became too limited for the growing business, and the Postal Department removed the office to a new- shop, which it leased for that, purpose in Manukau Road, in the Mount Roskill district, and some distance away from the Koyal Oak. As the lease of these premises will expire early next year, the residents are now signing a petition to the Post-master-General asking him to erect a email building on land belonging to his Department and situated at the corner of Manukau and Campbell Roads, opposite; the Royal Oak. The petitioners express the opinion that the post office is too far away, at present, from the business centre to be convenient for the majority _of people. They suggest that the time is opportune for the erection of a small building, as, in their opinion, labour and materials are as cheap as they ever will be. Aleo that money would be saved in rental and more business would pass through the Royal Oak post office. The foundations of the new building, the petitioners argue, could be sufficient to stand being enlarged upon at a future date, when it was found necessary to increase the accommodation in the building. The petition will be presented by Mr. W. J. Jordan, M.P. for Manukau, when Parliament meets this month.
