FOR THE GIRLS.

;. THE BUDGET QUILT. WILL YG)IS ; SEND A PATCH? My Dear Girls, — j A Budget patchwork quilt—and every patch knitted by a member pf the club. Could anything fee nicer? Oh, glrlo, I'm thrilled. Don't you think it's the loveliest idea? You know, it is a sad thought to think that while we are cosy and warm in our beds at night, somexvherc someone is cold and unhappy. We cTnTot help much-onfy a very little in fact-but it's worth it to know that a tiny act of warm-hearted kindness .0 bringing a little cheer into somebody's life. . And so we are going to make a quilt—the gayest and warmest quilt one could ever wish to see. It will be made up of.six-inch squares of knitting, and every square will be knitted by a club member. Will you send a patch, girls? It's so tremendously easy that even the very littlest Budget girl will be, able to do it. Gather together all the odd bit* of wool you can find—tiny left-over balls and stray ends of every colour and description—and krnt a plain square patch about sor 6 inches in length and breadth. To do this cast on'between 40 and 45 stitches and knit about 30 plain rows of knitting. £ Peter Pin tells me that the girls ot Aunt Hilda's Circle in the "Chrietchurch Star" ran a campaign of a similar nature and it was a wonderful success, so we simply must show them what we up North can do ■when we try. ',_ •■ . . j ■'.- ': '■. ■ t I'm *p enthusiastic about our patches campaign. I've simply overwhelmed Peter 'Pan with assurances that every girl will send a patch. You will, won't you? You simply "mmf; not fail me, girls! I'd cry with disappointment, I know, if there were not enough patches to make oar Budget quitt. .:: An&remember, you can make ydur patches any;sfee, shape or colour, peris&tly plain, or, if you wish, a quaint mixture of every shade in the rainbow—they will be welcomed just the same. ; I*||-be- -waiting with such impatience for the ■postman every day, for I'm simply dying to see who aL/dL*^ will send.,in''the first patch. 1 N . LJ^Z*Z!r^ Good-bye for this week, girls, and please—oh, please- don't forget our patches campaign. . - v £^
