The "tree dentist" ia a very old tree, standing on the shores of Loughmuckno in County Monaghan, Ireland. It is supposed that any person suffering from toothache who sticks a pin into its bark is immediately cured. The trunk has thousands of pins stuck in it. lodine come 3 largely from seaweed. It is prepared in the form of dark violet-brown scales (the word "iodine" means violet-coloured). The scales are dissolved in alcohoL Hence the familiar tincture of iodine.
