FAULTY POTATOES.

MERCHANT'S SUCCESSFUL APPEAL. FARMER AND GRADER TO PAY. _ Apropos of the complaint ventilated in these columns a few weeks back to the effect that consignments of potatoes received from the South contained an unreasonable quantity of dirt and were otherwise unsatisfactory, Messrs. Perkins and Sons, produce auctioneers, issued an appeal against the grader's certificate. They complained on account of small size and cut tubers, as well as unreasonable quantities of dirt in the sacks. The case was investigated by the Appeal Board at a recent sitting, and judgment was in appellants' favour, damage being assessed at £6 8/1, plus £6 6/ costs. The grader giving tlie certificate is culled upon to pay £3 3/ and the grower £3 3/. Tlie result of the appeal, which is quite an unusual one, will be of iiiterest to (Traders as well as to growers throughout the Dominion, and should assist in placing the potato business on a better footing.
