HALF-YEARLY MEETING. COMPANIES ACT AMENDMENT. The half-yearly meeting of the council of the New Zealand Society of Accountants was held in Wellington, the president, Mr. W. A. Smith (Chrietchurch), presiding. Also present were: Messrs. A. M. Seaman, J. M. Elliffe, H. C. Robinson (Auckland), W. H. Irvine (Gisborne), M. S. Spence (Napier), C. H. Wynyard (New Plymouth), R. Davis (Palmerston North), H. Valentine, J. L. Griffin, S. E. Lambert (Wellington), J. Mawson Stewart (Christchurch), P. B. Foote (Timaru), James* Hogg, J. W. Smeaton (Dunedin), and E. J. Harvey (Blenheim). The Public Service Commissioner advised that in future issues of the Public Service classification list the society's distinguishing letters would be shown against the names of members of the eociety. The education committee was instructed to consider and report on the establishment of a travelling scholarship for members of the society. Members in public practice are to be supplied with a report covering replies received from the New Zealand Law Society in regard to the interpretation of the regulations for the auditing of solicitors' truet accounts. Mr. Will Appktcn, of Wellington, was appointed a representative of the society it the International Congress of Accounting, which is to be held in London during July, 1933. A resolution was passed urging the Government to introduce during the coming session of Parliament the amended companies Bill, owing to the urgent call by the business community for amendments to the present legislation in regard to the conduct of limited liability companies. The annual meeting of members will be held in Napier daring February, 1933.
