RELIEF OF DISTRESS.
BANK OF NEW ZEALAND'S £4000. APPLICATIONS IN AUCKLAND. Thirty-seven applications have been made to the Auckland branch of the Bank of New Zealand for a share of the money set aside by the bank for the relief of distress among women and children in the four centres. A total of £4000 was earmarked for the purpose, £1000 to be distributed in each centre. A few individuals have applied for relief, but they have been rafused, for the reason that' the money is to be distributed among deserving charitable organisations and committees. All applications were to be handed in to the local branch of the bank by to-day. They are to be submitted to the head office of theb ank at Wellington before any distribution is made.
