MENACE TO JEWS.
Protest Against Treatment in Germany. HITLERISM MUST BE CURBED. GENEVA, August 16. "Hitlerism will become a challenge and an offence against all Jewry unless it be speedily curbed. The Jewish forces must unite for self-defence," said Dr. Joseph Tenenbaum, chairman of th» American Jewish Congress, speaking at the Jewish World Conference. "the Nazis ; are spreading antiSemitism in many countries," said Dr. Tenenbaum. He recalled the fact that Jews supplied more than 17 per cent ol the German army in the Great War, and said 12 per cent were buried on the battlefields. . Other speakers declared that the Jew--in Germany were clown and out. Their chances of recovery had been lessened by the tendency to ovist Jews . from economic life, combined with the poisoning of the minds of youth against them.
A Polish s|>eaker paid the reason so few Jews were attending the Conference was that they had become cowards. "We have come here to launch a protest to all the world," he eaid, "against the present treatment of Jews in Germany.' ,
Dr. Motzik expressed the opinion that Palestine holds the future for the Jewish race. When 1,000.000 Jews were then; their enemies would speak and act differently. BIG SHRINKAGE. EXPORTS AND IMPORTS. (Received 0.30 a.m.) BERLIN, August Iβ. German exports for July amounted to £21,005,000 and imports £18,310,000, compared with £41,360,000 and £28,115,000 respectively for July last year.
