SWEPT DOWN RIVER.
NO TRACE OF RIDER. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, this day. When attempting to cross the flooded Waitara River on horseback at a ford to-day Mr. George Ashley, of Tarata, wae swept downstream and is believed to have been drowned. The ford is in very rough country and there is a possibility that Mr. Ashley may have reached the bank, but no news of him or the horse has been received.
