DAIRY INDUSTRY.

I>AILY CREAM COLLECTION. COMPANY'S PROGRESSIVE MOVE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. The decision was readied at the annual meeting of the Springhead Dairy Company yesterday that in future cream will be taken to the factory every day, instead of three times a week. Suppliers were influenced to make this decision by advice given by the manager, the district dairy instructor, and others anxious to improve the quality of tho factory's product. The manager, Mr. H. A. Rawle, suggested that where collecting lorries went inside suppliers' gates tho supplier concerned stand the expense, instead of the service being paid for by the company as a whole, but this did not meet with favour. Mr. J. Wallace Smith, district dairy instructor, said ho would like to see all North Island dairy companies go in for a daily collection. Complaints were raised that New Zealand butter was too fiat. When cream was collected three times weekly a larger percentage of bicarbonate of soda had to be used as a neutralise!-. This had an effect on the taste of tho butter. Mr. Eastgatc, who was present as representative of a London buying firm, said that the butter required for the English market needed to be of a quality more nearly approaching tho Danish article. Mr. Mannington asked, if a supplier kept his cream for two days under tho best conditions, whether it would make an inferior butter. Mr. Smith replied to the contrary, but said that of the 99 dairy farms visited by him in j North Auckland, only three were using ! coolers.
