FIVE MAORIS CHARGED.
BREAKING, ENTERING AND THEFT. TWO SENT TO BORSTAL. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) TAURANGA, this day. In tho Magistrate's Court yesterday before Mr. S. L. Patterson, S.M., five young Maoris appeared charged with breaking, entering and theft at Katikati. Detective White stated that George Barbarich had previously answered to charges at Tauranga and Te Aroha and seemed to bo incorrigible. Cooper Jacob was also a bad influence in the pa in which ho lived, while the other three were lazy, and did not work when they had money, but spent their time plfiying billiards.
Barbarich was sent to a Borstal Institution for three years and Jacob for two years. The other three were placed on probation for three years and ordered to make restitution to the extent of £8 each. Tho magistrate said if they made no attempt to pay they would go to prison.
