DEVONPORT BOROUGH. A meeting of the Devonport Borough Council was held last evenings the Mayor, Mr. H. F. W. Meikle," presiding. Technical' College Representation.—Mr. G. Falla was appointed to. attend a meeting of local body representatives! at which a' representative on the Technical College Board of Governors will, be elected. Old Power House.—The Waitemata Electric Power Board wrote'advising that' the old power house in Church Street, is to be offered for sale. The premises are being used at present as headquarters-for the Devonport Welfare League. Collecting Bus Fares.—The council decided to request the Cheltenham Bus Com* pahy to allow passengers to enter the buses on wet nights before collecting fares; Mr. Farquh'arson had' pointed' out .'that the present regulations regarding payment on! entering led 'to much- diseomort in inclement weather. / ,r ' Payment of Rates'.—The financial'state : ment for the four months ended on .July 31, showed receipts totalling £14,873. The ! town clerk, Mr. A. E..Wilson, said general rates totalled. £3698, against £3958 last year, payment having been satisfactory, considering present conditions.' Appointment of Officers.—Mr. C. P. Harper was appointed traffic inspector, in place of Mr. H. Reynolds, who has been compelled to resign owing to continued ill health. Mr. W. E. Lawson was appointed timekeeper and storekeeper at. the council depot. There were over. CO applicants for each position. TUAKAU TOWN BOARD. (From Our Own Correspondent.) TUAKAU, Wednesday. The Tuakau Town Board met last evening, Mr. W. J. Taylor presiding. Lorry License Fees.—lt was decided to oppose the proposal to exempt farmers' lorries from the payment of .heavy traffic license fees. Application for Highway.—The Franklin County Council intimated that it was not applying for Harrisville Road to> /be declared a main highway, but was making application in respect of the Pukekohe East to Runciman Road. Half Holiday.—A petition received from over 80 residents asking that the electors be permitted to decide by vote the question of the statutory half holiday was referred to the chairman and clerk. Proposed Work. —The question of kerbing and channelling 47 chains of George Street at an estimated cost of £150 was deferred for a later consideration. Insurance Reduced.—lt was agreed to reduce the insurance on the Memorial Hall from £4200 to £2000. Revoking of Highway.—lt was reported by a member that the Main Highways Board had decided to revoke the declaration of the Tuakau to Pokeno, via Whangarata Road, as a main highway. The Franklin County Council when approached stated it did not anticipate such action.
