YOUTH WELFARE.
HENDERSON COUNCIL'S SCHEME. " At the invitation of Mr. S. G. Smith, M.P., who has been appointed by the Government to investigate and report on youth welfare in the North Island, members of the Henderson Youth Welfare Council met him in Auckland during his visit. Those pre-sent were Mr. A. W. Bussey (chairman), Mrs. E. G. Rountree, Mrs. L. Bond. Messrs. E. Greenslade (secretary) and I. Holt. A copy of a letter forwarded to the Prime Minister containing an outline of a farming scheme was read to Mr. Smith, and he expressed great satisfaction at the soundness of the scheme, and asked that it be submitted to him in detail. Mr. Smith said the actual number of the unemployed youth of the Dominion was vaguely "expressed by many, and definite registration was necessary before the actual number could be ascertained. He hoped that his investigations, and those of his colleague, Mr. E. A. Anscll. M.P., would bring the problem before the Government in a way that would secure immediate decisive action.
