BANK AND WAREHOUSE.
NEW BUILDING SCHEMES. CONFIDENCE IN NAPIER. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent) NAPIER, Tuesday. Proposals for rebuilding announced to-day by two companies are regarded by tho citizens as an indication of confidence in the future of Napier. The first is that of the Bank of New Zealand, in regard to which there has been keen interest for several months past. It was officially stated to-day that the bank would shortly erect a block of new office premises.
Tho other announcement is that Ross and Glcndining, Ltd., will erect new premises in Tennyson Street, on a property recently purchased. Neither the bank building nor Ross and Glendining's warehouse will occupy their former sites, and the fact that the bank is to build on a corner property in the heart of the business area has given rise to some mild criticism, principally because three of the four corners at the intersection of Emerson and Hastings Streets will be occupied by bank offices, the Union and the National having already ■ announced their intentions of rebuilding on the corners which they held before the earthquake. In spite of the criticism, however, the Bank of New Zealand's announcement is welcomed.
