ROWING.

WEST END CLUB. PRESENTATION OF PRIZES. The annual social and presentation of prizes of the West End Rowing Club took place in the boathouse, St. Mary's Bay, last night. Mr. A. M. Paterson, patron, presided, and included in the record attendance of club supporters were the representatives of the Auckland Rowing Association (Mr. W. Madden) and the Auckland, North Shore, Waitematii and St. George's i Rowing Clubs. The big boathouse was taxed to its full capacity and the function proved the most enjoyable sind successful since the wilr. The decorations in the club's colours were most tastefully 'arranged, and the prizes— Df a most valuable nature —neatly displayed, commanded n lot of attention. In welcoming the visitors, Mr. A. M. Faterson thnnked the club's many supporters for the valuable assistance rendered last season, and, as shown by the club's performances, it wus greatly appreciated by the ollicern and members. In view of the coming jubilee of the club, lie trusted that old members and supporters would rally round and make the occasion a memorable one. Mr. Paterson referred to the keenness and enthusiasm being displayed by the members, making special reference, that brought prolonged applause, of the gift to the club of a new racing clinker four by Mr. C. G. Herdman, the secretary. Mr. A. C. Nordon, president, spoke of the club's activities and urged the furtherance of the sport, giving many bright incidents of the advantages that rowing offers. Mr. Norden mentioned the great part rowing rook In the world's spQrt and referred to Hie great interest centred in the New Zealand eight—our crew competing at the Olympic Games next Saturday. The prizes were distributed by Mrs. Mortimer Fairs. An enjoyable programme was contributed by Misses Gladys Brlttlan, Reka Pnterson. Eileen SmithKon, Isd finiirhson, Joyce CVoflher, and Messrs. Alan MeKlwaln, A. R. Bailer. B. R. Bryant, W\ Smith Hon. W. N. Briinton. C. Rhodes. D. O'Donnell. Hnyrtn Murray. Mr. C Puinttnff ■was accompanist. After simper dancing concluded a nirrlit that West End will long remember. Special prnise is due to Mr. C. G. Ilerd'nan. secretary, under whose orc.inisinc efforts all arrangements were carried out.
