MAYORESS' LIBRARY LEAGUE.
A social afternoon in aid of the funds of the Mayoress , War Memorial Library League was held yesterday in the supper room of the Town Hall. In thanking 1 those who were present, Mrs. Hutchison said that at the present time it was becoming very difficult to find the money needed to pay the postage on the large number of parcels which the association sent out to the backblocks. The afternoon had been arranged with the idea of raising some money for this purpose and a large bridge party was to be held on August 18. The parcels of books, which were sent to the relief camps were being greatly appreciated, and it was hoped that enough would be forthcoming to keep the work going for those who needed it. Stalls were' in charge of the following:—Produce, Mrs. L. Phillips, for St. John Ambulance; work, Mrs. A. Mathais, Civic League; sweets, under the control of the girls of the Query Club. Energetic work was done for the afternoon by Miss Bastcn nnd Mrs. E. Arroll, while Mrs. McNair and her committee served afternoon tea. Songs were sung by Miss L. Dunnett and Mrs. 11. King. A competition was won by Mrs. F. Webster.
