CREW PAID OFF.

FIREMEN'S HOURS OF WORK. UNION ENTERS DISPUTE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The crew of the coastal steamer John was paid off to-day, and the vessel will be laid up until some agreement is reached between the owners and the union in regard to manning her. For several trips a fireman has been refusing to obey the master's instructions as to his hours of work, and the company has tried to have the man signed off and replaced. The union entered into the matter, and the ship has been laid up until a settlement is reached.
