TE AWAMUTU TRIALS.

PROTOMINT PLEASES. YESTERDAY MORNING'S WORK. The course proper, 25ft out from the rails, was available for fast work at Te Awamutu yesterday morning, hut as usual there was very little doing. For other than fast work the plough, track and inner grass track were used. Protomint and Nassau Lady, whose trouble evidently was not as serious as at first thought, hopped away smartly from the seven-furlong barrier and both were galloping freely at the five-furlong peg, where they were joined by Sir Musk. Protomint was moving along nicely, to finish ahead of Sir Musk, with Nassau Lady well back, in 1.30 3-5. This was a very useful eifort on the part of Sir Musk, it being his first gallop since the Te Rapa meeting. Sea Ruler was allotted a couple of furlongs on the same track, but was not being hurried to take 29 3-ss. This gelding has grown nicely and should perform well as a three-year-old. On the Plough. Among those doing pace work on this track were: Soloist, the Valkyrian gelding, Bambury, Chateau, King's Knave, Lucidus, Emancipation, Foreign Money, Shamgar, Len, Marechal, Kanapa, Musketoon —Sibford gelding, Trishna, Loombiriation, Erination, Jonathan and Miss Lorraine. The Hurdle Grass. The following yearlings were worked along steadily on this track: The High Art colt, the General Latour —March gelding, the Chief Ruler—Rapture filly, the Chief Ruler—Miss Sphinx filly, Dinella and Trickling Waters. GOOD EFFORT BY INFLATION. Inflation, who is due to leave for Australia towards the end of the month, will not take long to get into racing trim (says the Manawatu "Times"). He has had a bit of a let up since the Manawatu meeting, but he was given his first sprint on Saturday last. This was followed by another "pipe-opener" on Tuesday, when the Paper Money colt was sent along over three furlongs with Voitre in the saddle and Chief Marionette (Bradley) and Y than (M. Thompson) as companions. Inflation, ■who is on the big side at present, was on the bit all the way, but he had no difliculty in breaking 40s for the three furlongs, taking 26s for the last two and being about three lengths ahead of Chief Marionette at the post. If Inflation reproduces hie true form in Australia ho should gather in some stake money on the trip. At present it is hoped that Keith Voitre kwill be available to -ride- the colt in his engagements. . ..-.
