DEPUTATION TO MINISTERS

QUESTION OF RETENTION

(15? Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Thursday.

Representatives of various interests affected by the Government's decision to close the Dunedin Training College met thu Minister of Education, the Hon. R. Masters, and the- Minister of Finance, tho Hon. Downie W. Stewart, in Wellington yesterday, and outlined a scheme under which the four college* could be maintained with considerably reduced staffs without impairing efficiency. Tho cost of the scheme for the four colleges was stated to be £7848, compared with £10,000 under the proposals put forward by tho Minister of Education for two colleges. The total saving which would be effected by the scheme outlined by the deputation was estimated at £17,750, against £14,750 under the Minister's plan. It was stated that the scheme would make for equality of sacrifice in the four centree. Mr. Masters agreed to consider the proposals, and stated that a decision would bo arrived at in the near future.
