RUSSIAN PETROL.
SPECIAL BRITISH DUTY URGED
LONDON, June 9
"The whole nation would rejoice if the Government put a special duty on Soviet petrol and oil," says the "Daily Mail" in a leading article.
"The collapse of the international oil conference in New York was due to an attempt by Soviet and other foreign interests to crush the Anglo-Dutch companies. The Soviet is in a. strong position, because its oilfields have been developed and equipped with British money, which was confiscated in the revolution, costing Russia nothing. She thus can sell oil at a slaughter price, endangering the Anglo-Persian Company, in which £7,500,000 of British money is involved."
