Newfoundland Government Gets
Only Two Seats. ELECTION DEBACLE. (Received 10 a.m.) ST. JOHNS (N'fTnd.), June 14. Overnight returns turned the defeat of the Squires Government into an almost complete rout. By Tuesday the Opposition had elected at least 20, while the Government had elected only one, and the Independents one. Five seats have vet to be decided of the total of 27. Lady Helena Squires, wife of the Premier, was defeated in Twilingate. Later returns show the state of parties thus: — Opposition 21 Government 2 Independent 1 Three returns to come.
