BADMINTON.

INTER-CLUB COMPETITION. N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIP DATES. The present badminton season in Auckland promises to be both a busy and Interesting one. for, in addition to the New Zealand championships being held here again after a lapse of three years, the Auckland Association has arranged a "knock-out" competition for teams which do not reach the finals in the Dart Shield matches. Altogether 20 teams have entered for this competition, which now comprises live groups. Three or four clubs have two teams entered, which should give satisfaction to all members, as they will all have equal opportunities of match play. As Parnell is still about the same, they should have no difficulty in winning group one to retain the trophy, although Central, which is in group three, Is a club with promising material which will extend them. Central ladies, comnrising Misses S. Harrison, J. Ramsay, T. D. Newson and Mrs. Wren, are quite capable of holding their own with Parnell. but the men are not vet up to the same standard. By the Way." L. J. Williamson is now secretary of Central in place of Miss Ramsay, and with Ids organising ability should help the club along. Very little Is known generally of the strength of the various teams in the other groups, although Northern should win group four. This club, wulch was the first and strongest in Auckland, has now lost the services of Miss B. Solomon, who tins forsaken the game for that of the "Royal and Ancient."

August 24 to 27 are (he suggested dates of the New Zealand championships, which are to be played here again this year after a lapse of three years.

Winners of the various championships will hnve two titles bestowed on them, as the Auckland provincial championships are to he included in the one tournament.

These tournaments have always been helil in the Scots Hall, where only two courts can be had, but it has been suggested that one of the sheds on the Central wharf might be secured. Although this would probably not be so good from the spectators' point of view, there should be room for at least six courts, which would enable the tournament to be got through without the loss of time, which has always happened before. The number of courts possible in one of the wharf sheds would relieve the eongestion, and. after all, the players deserve first consideration. Among tho Clubs. Ensign v.
