MAN FOUND DEAD.
FORMERLY SERVED IN THE NAVY.

KAITAIA, Tuesday.
Michael John Hayes, a former naval man, aged about 65, was found dead in his house with injuries to the throat and head. A note was left asking that a sum of about £1 in a small box on a table, should be handed to the officials of a football club.. He had acted as gatekeeper at football matches. It is understood that the old man had £700 on fixed deposit in a bank as well as money in the Post Office Savings Bank.
