KILLED BY TRAIN.
INDENT AGENT'S DEATH.
BODY FOUND NEAR TUNNEL.
NOTE PRODUCED AT INQUEST,
The dead body of an indent agent, Mr. Frederick John Thompson, aged 50, of 1, Ayr Street, Parnell, was found several yards outside the Newmarket entrance of the Parnell tunnel about 11 o'clock last night by the driver of the AucklandPapakura train. The body had been dragged some distance, and it is thought that Mr. Thomp. son. was struck by the 10.16 train from Auckland to Henderson. The engine driver of this train had not noticed the body. Constables from Newmarket and Parnell stations were summoned, and the body was taken to the mortuary. Note on Body. "When found, if dead, have W taken to the morgue at the Public Hospital. If injured, to the casualty ward at the Public Hospital. Acquaint my wife at No. 1, Ayr Street, Parnell. There is no telephone to the house. I hereby definitely forbid my name to be made public in any way whatever."
The above note, unsigned, was found on the body, and was identified as bein;j in the handwriting of the deceased by John Gilmour, who identified the body as that of Frederick John Thompson at the inquest opened this afternoon.
The witness said deceased was about 05 years of age, a native of New South Wales, and was a married man with two married daughters. Deceased had never indicated at any time to witness that he would do himself an injury.
The further hearing of the inquest was adjourned sine die.
