OBSTACLES REMOVED. Rapid Recovery in Australia Prophesied. "IN LINE FOR FIRST TIME." (United P.A.—Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 11 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. The Federal Treasurer, Mr. S. M. Bruce, in a speech to the Chamber of Commerce, said: "I think we can look with confidence to the future. If \vc steel ourselves a little while longer I believe we will get out of our troubles rather sooner than many people to-day suppose." Speaking in Adelaide, the South Australian Labour Premier, Mr. L. li. Hill, said, referring to the New South Wales election results: "Saturday was a great day for Australia. Langism, the greatest obstacle to our progress, and party politics generally were smashed at the same time. Australia now lias her opportunity. The Governments of Australia are in line for the first time since the Premiers' Conference when the Premiers' Plan was evolved." A Brisbane message states that the Queensland State Treasurer, Mr. Barnes, commenting on the result of the elections in the State, said: "The new Labour Premier, Mr. Forgan Smith, whose promises on the platform have swayed a large body of voters, would soon be brought face to face with the necessity of adhering to the Premiers' Plan. It would be impossible for him to raise a loan without the assistance ol the Loan Council. • The only alternative was increased taxation, when the realities of the situation would present themselves."
