BANANAS BY AORANGI. POTATOES FIRM IN PRICE. APrLES AND PEARS CHEAP. Further supplies of bananas came to hand by the Aorangi, but the shipment was not a largo one. Fiji pines also arrived. Hothouse tomatoes are now meeting with good demand. Lemons sold at low prices, owing to the large quantity that has been sent in. Apples and pears are still in poor demand. Passion fruit is meeting with fair sales, and really firstclass hothouse grapes realise good prices. Quotations arc:— Apples: Delicious, 2/6 to 6/ per case; Jonathan, 3/ to 5/6; Ballarats, 3/6 to 4/0; Granny Smiths, 5/ to 6/; Jupp Russets, 4/ to 5/6. Pears: Coles and Nclis, 6/ to 7/6; Keif Vers, 4/ to 5/; Conference, 3/ to 4/. Capes: 2%d to 3d per lb. Persimmons: 2/6 to 3/ per case. Passions: 5/ to 10/. Tree tomatoes: 4/ to 5/; black, 4/ to 5/6. Grapes: Hothouse, Coleman, extra choice, 1/9 to 2/6 per lb; Australian, white, 11/ to 13/ per case. Oranges: Island, 13/ to 16/; Australian Navels, 9/ to 12/. Bananas: No. 1, 14/0; No. 2 and medium, 5/ to 12/. Lemons: 2/6 to 5/. Tomatoes: Hothouse, 6/ to 11/. Pines: Fiji, 10/ to 12/. Vegetables. Potatoes have a tendency to firm in price now that the local crop is done. Cabbage were in heavy supply this week, but fewer cauliflowers were sent in. Pumpkins are still in good supply and citron melons are a glut on the market. Large quantities of celery of good class continue to come forward. Kumaras arc still plentiful. The market has been well supplied with onions. Quotations arc:— Potatoes, Southern, 8/ to 9/ per cwt; new, 3/6 to 4/6 per bag; onions, 6/6 to 8/6, or 20/ cwt; kumaras, local, 3/ to 4/6 per bag; Tauranga, 3/ to 4/6: cabbage, 1/6 to 4/ per sack; cauliflower, 5/ to 13/; swedes, 1/6 to 2/6 per bag; pumpkins, 2/ to 5/6 per cwt; citron melons, 2/ to 2/6 per sack; beans, 4/ to 8/ per bag; lettuce, 6d to 2/6 per case; cucumbers, hothouse, 3/6 to 4/6 per dozen; vegetable marrows, 1/6 to 3/; cabbage, loose, 1/ to 2/6; cauliflowers, loose, 2/ to 9/; celery, 6d to 2/ per bundle; rhubarb, 1/ to 2/6 per dozen; spinach, 6d to 9d; pumpkins, loose, 3d to Od each; radish, Od per dozen; spring onions, Od to 10<1 per bundle; carrots, parsnips, beet and turnips, 4d to 8d per dozen; leeks, 2d to 4d per bundle; cliokos, 8d to 1/6 per dozen; sprouts, 3d to 4d per lb. Eggs and Butter. There is no alteration in the position of the market for eggs. Quotations are:— First grade hen eggs, 2/1% per dozen; B grade, 1/11%, C grade, 1/8%. Duck eggs, first grade, 2/0% per dozen; B grade, 1/10%; C grade, 1/8%. Farmers' butter realises 8d to lid per lb. according to quality. Poultry. At to-day's auctions the supply of poultry was medium and the demand was fair. The prices paid remain about level. Selling rates were as follow: — Cockerels: Heavy breeds, prime, 2/9 to 4/9 each; not prime, 1/6 up; light breeds, prime, 1/6 to 3/; not prime, 1/ up. Fat roosters: Heavy breeds, prime, 1/6 to 2/; light breeds, 1/3 to 1/9. Fat hens: Heavy breeds, 2/ to 2/9; light breeds, 1/3 to 1/9. Pullets: Heavy breeds, best, 3/ to 5/; smaller, 1/6 up; light breeds, best, 3/ to 5/; smaller, 1/6 up. Drakes: Young, prime, 1/9 to 2/9; smaller, 1/6 up. Ducks: Young, 2/9 to 4/; old, 2/ to 3/. Drakes: Old, 1/6 to 1/9. ' Turkey hens: 2/6 to 4/. Gobblers: 4/ to 11/. Prices at Wellington. Messrs. Laery and Company, Limited, Wellington, report present values as follow:— Lemons: Choice, cured, 10/ to 12/ per bushel; others, 6/ to 8/. Passions: Choice, 11/ to 14/ half case. Celery: Choice, 4/ to 6/ banana case. Kumaras: Choice, 3/ to 3/6 sugar bag. French beans: Choice hothouse, lOd to 1/ per lb. Cucumbers: Choice, 4/ to 8/ per dozen. Green peas: Choice, 15/ to 20/ half sack. Poorman oranges: Choice, 6/6 to 7/6 bushel. Tree tomatoes: Choice, 7/ to 8/ half case.
