LOCAL BODIES.

NEW LYNN BOROUGH COUNCIL. A meeting of tlie Incw Lynn Borough Council was held last evening. The Mayor, Mr. Geo. Lawson, presided, and other members present were Messrs. W. Piatt, Geo. Severne, S. James, M. Laing, A. Wool ley and A. Jeffrey. Assessment Court. —The "Valuation Department advised that objection to valuations in the Xeiv Lynn district would be heard at a sitting of the Assessment Court 011 June 17. Titirangi Road.—Four tenders were received i'or tar-sealing Titirangi Road, between the concrete at the railway crossing, as follows: —Messrs. Isheiwoou and Bellam, £111 13/11; Grinter Bros. £140; Auckland Gas Co., £185: and J. Thomson, £103 15/9. The council recommended to the Main Highways Board the acceptance of Ml'. Thomson's tender. Municipal Garden.—The Mayor explained proposals which he had in mind for the utilisation of the area of land adjacent to the Council Chambers for the purposes of o. 5 Scheme in growing produce, which would ultimately be distributed by a distress committee to those in need of food, and not able to produce it themselves. The project received the full support of the council. Farm and City Careers Bureau.—The bureau, in a letter, stressed 'the_ very serious conditions which are obtaining in connection with unemployed ' boys in Auckland and the province, and suggested that, in view of the Government's refusal to act in this matter, an effort be made to survey the magnitude of the problem by obtaining a complete register of all boys seeking employment in Auckland city and suburbs. The council was asked to allow registratiou of unemployed boys in its district to take place at the council offices. The council agreed. Public Works.—The works foreman reported that the expenditure on public works from April 27 to May 25 amounted to £105 10/1. the net cost to the borough being £62 19/8. Rewarewa Creek.—The works foreman reported oil the cost of constructing a footbridge over the Rewarewa Creek on the Great North Road. Two proposals were submitted, estimated to cost £83 5/ and £103 12/6 respectively. The decision was deferred pending the adoption of the council's estimates. Public Trust Funds.—The Public Trustee, in a letter, stated that it had been necessary to review the rate of interest allowed on trust moneys ijivested in the common _ fund of the Public Trust Office. In view of the decreased return from the investments of the common fund, and the increased expenses of collecting interest and supervising securities, there was no alternative but to effect a reduction in the rate of interest allowed on moneys invested. As from April 1, 1932, the rate of interest allowed on trust moneys had been reduced to 4 per cent.
