AMUSEMENTS.
ROXY THEATRE. Two of Britain's best products 'will line up on the bill of fare at the Roxv Theatre for a week starting to-morrow. The first of these films is "Captivation," which serves as the third screen appearance of Betty Stockficld, who, despite her rather disappointing opportunities in "City of Song," proved herself to be an actress of front ranking. She was later seen in "77, Park Lane," with Dennis Neilson -Terry. In "Captivation," a fascinating romance of love on board a palatial yacht in the sunny Mediterranean, she is supported by a cast of plavers headed by Violet Vanbrugh, of immortal stage fame, by Conway Tearle, perhaps the most successful stage actor in America and star of the British film, "The Shadow Between," and also by Frederick Volpe, who will be remembered for his sterling woik as the admiral in "The Middle Watch.'" He has a similar role in this picture, llie other film at the Roxy is "Condemned to Death," a gripping mystery thriller, with Arthur Wontiier, the best-known player of Sherlock Holmes roles, in the leading part. He is aided by Gordon ITarker, Jane Welsh, Edmund Cweiin and. Cyril Raymond. TIVOLI THEATRE. Two excellent comedies are announced for the pleasure of patrons at the Tivoli Theatre this evening. These are "High Stakes" (with Lowell Sherman and Mary Astor) and "Raciiig Youth ' (Slim Summerville, Louise Fazcnda). HOSPITAL CONCERT. The Neville Carlson Revue Company visited the Auckland Hospital last, night and gave a vaudeville entertainment to the patients of Ward 1. A "packed house" and sustained applause rewarded the players, who were as follow: —Mme. Y. Faskell, Mrs. J. Holt, Misses J. Tucker, J. Watts, W. Lockwood, E. Bean, D. Lockwood, K. Salmon, J. Spick, Messrs. G. Wood, P. F. Nash, W. Audain, J. O'Kane, M. Hamlin, B. Green, E. Parkinson, L. Porter, J. Davey, J. Holt, N. Carlson and Master A. Parkinson. Mrs. J. Holt was accompanist. WEEKLY UNIVERSITY LECTURES. A series of weekly lectures on the geography of the Pacific Ocean, the history of its exploration and its racial and political aspects will be commenced with an address in the University College Hall •this evening by Dr. J. C. Beagleliole, who will speak on "The Opening of the Pacific." He will deal with the adventures and romance of the earliest navigators to the time of Cook.
