MAORI SHOT IN ARM.
ALLEGED MASTERTON AFFRAY. OPERATION IN HOSPITAL. MAN BEFORE THE COURT. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) MASTERTON, this day. A Maori lies in the Masterton Hospital as the result of a shooting affray at South Carterton. It is alleged that Reuben Kopu, who lives across the road from a house occupied by Jack Richards, heard an altercation in the latter's house and went across to investigate. When lie was approaching it is further alleged that Richards discharged a shotgun at him. A portion of the shot entered Kopu's arm and he was later admitted to hospital. His injury was X-rayed and an operation performed. In the Carterton Magistrate's Court to-day Richards was charged with having discharged a firearm at Kopu with intent to do bodily harm. Accused was remanded to appear 011 Tuesday, bail being fixed at a personal recognisance of £200, and two sureties of £100.
