Britain to Meet Germany in
Semi-final. ITALY PLAYING SWITZERLAND. (Received 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, June 12. At Warsaw Britain defeated Poland in the Davis Cup by four rubbers to one. Later results:—Perry and Hughes beat Hebda and Warminski, Ci—o, 6 —2, C—o; Perry beat Stolarow, 6— i, 6—4, 2—G, 7 —5; Lee lost to Itloczynski, 4—o, 4—G, 6—2, 5—7. Germany defeated Ireland at Berlin by four rubbers to one. Prenn and von Cramm won the. doubles from Rogers and McGuire, G—4, G—3, 3—6, B—(i. Prenn disposed of Rogers in straight sets, 6—2, 7—5, 6—2.' McGuire also failed to take a set from von Cramm, the ecores being 6 —2, 6 —4, 6 —2. Germany meets Britain in one eemifinal of the European zone, Japan having qualified to play in the other, the winner of the Italy v. Switzerland match. A Montrcux message states that Italy is leading by two rubbers to one. Fischer (Switzerland) beat Palmrera, 6 —B, 6 —4, I—6, 6—l, o—3, and da Stefani (Italy) beat Aeschliman, C—4, 7—5, B—6. In the doubles Sertorio and Palmiera (Italy) won from Aeschliman and Fischer, 3—6, 6—4, 6—4, 6—4.

New Zealander's Fast Run At
Stamford Bridge.
BREAKS 37-YEAR-OLD RECORD
LONDON, June 12
J. E. Lovelock, New Zealand, broke the 37-yeav-old world's record for throequarters of a. mile at yesterday's Civil Service sports at Stamford Bridge. His time was 3.2 1-5. He- made a brilliant run, in tho back straight to finish fourth.
The track, when measured, showed that Lovelock had run nearly three feet over the three-quarters of a mile.
The Frenchman, J. Ladoumegue. has done the distance in 3.0 3-5, but the International Federation has not ret passed the record.
