ENGLISH ELEVEN.

TRIAL TEAMS.

Chapman and Robins Not In First Twenty-two.

CRITICS EXPRESS SURPRISE,

(United P.A.—Electric Telegraph—Copyright)

(Received 12 noon.)

LONDON, June 12

Teams for the cricket Test trial match at Manchester on June IS are:—

North.—Wyatt (captain), Sutcliffe, Lcyland, Larwood, Voce, Keeton, Duckworth, Paynter, Sibbles, .T. B. Mitchell, J. E. Timins.

South. —Jardine (captain), Duleepsinhji, Allen, Peebles, Allom, F. R. Brown, Woolley, Hammond, Ames, O'Connor, T. Cook. Iddon is twelfth man for both sides.

Chapman's omission is the most surprising feature of the trial teams, whi. h the "Telegraph" attributes to the selectors' desire to give Jardine a chance of proving his mettle. The selectors know all there is to be known about Chapman.

The "News Chronicle" says everybody Will miss Chapman's name. The selectors' task must be rather difficult and delicate, but some selectors do seem to go out of their way to look for trouble.

"The Times" cricket comments say that notable omissions are Chapman and Robins. Keeton and Paynter thoroughly deserve their places, and Woolley's selection is interesting. Apparently Jardine will be England's captain.

O'Connor heads the batting averages with 074 runs at an average of 67.40, followed by Sutcliffe, Tyldesley, Shepherd, Ames, Keeton, Hobbs, Paynter, Hammond, Jardine and Woolley. Larwood heads the bowling with 24 wickets at an average of 7.79, followed by Durston, Staples, Voce, Kennedy, Bailey, Sibbles, Freeman, Tate and Verity.

The South American cricketers in their first innings against Leicester have lost six wickets for 75 runs.

The Indian cricketere in their first innings against Lancashire, for eight wickets, made 305 (Navle 64, Nayudu 125).
