CAR OUT OF CONTROL

CRASHED INTO SHOP. MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED. A small motor car, out of control, with a man standing on the running board, careered down Wakefield Street about 10.30 last night, crossed Queen Street, where it narrowly missed a woman, and crashed into a side window in the shop of Atwatere Piano Company, Fergusson Buildings. The man, who did not attempt to jump eff, even when the car had practically reached the shop, was hurled through the doorway into a ca/binet gramophone, and then rolled down some stairs, almost to the bottom. Hβ was picked up unconscious from a deep wound in the dead, which bled profusely.

The victim, Mr. John Stanley Thomson, of 170, Balmoral Road, was taken to the Auckland Hospital by the St. John Ambulance, and did not regain consciousness until early this morning. Although hie condition is serious, the authorities state that there was a considerable improvement to-day.

After crashing through the window, tho car came to rest on a landing halfway down the stalre. Glass from the plate-glase windows and splintered woodwork was thrown in all directions. Occupants of the floor upstairs state that the building shook. Mr. R. Keith ran from upstairs and after seeing what had happened telephoned for police and ambulance.

The estimated damage to windows, premises and contents w in the vicinity of £100. The plate-glass windows and the contents are covered by policies of insurance with Lloyd's. This is the third occasion on which this ehop has been damaged by run-away motor vehicles. The damage to the car, the property of Snorter's Rental Cars, is estimated at £100.
