SUBSIDY FOR BUILDING.
UNEMPLOYMENT BOARD'S SCHEME. SUGGESTIONS FROM AUCKLAND. The Unemployment Board's scheme for advancing building operations wae considered by the committee of the Auckland Master Builders' Association last evening. Mr. R. A. Cornish presided. Memben criticised the proposal to employ under-rate labour, it being felt that that would lea'd to many anomalies and would upset values in a number of directions.
The meeting passed a resolution setting out the opinion that, in order to make the scheme fully valuable, the board should subsidise all building operations to the extent of one-third of the wages' involved, with the provision that the subsidy should not exceed £1 2/6 weel-Jy per man. The opinion was also expressed that award rates should be paid, and that the payment of wages and the engagement of men should be controlled by the master builders.
