TRAFFIC OFFICER RETIRES. Mr. A. V. Morphy, who has been in the traffic department of the Auckland City Council for the past six years, has resigned his positio-n for the purpose of returning to England. He leaves on Monday. At a gathering of fellow traffic officers, which the town clerk, Mr. J. S. Brigham, attended, Mr. Morphy yesterday was presented with a gold wristlet watch, suitably inscribed. Mr. G. R. Hogan, chief traffic inspector, making the presentation, said Mr. Morphy's departure was a distinct loss to the council. Mr. Hopraai's remarks were supplemented by Mr. Brigham, and in reply Mr. Morphy thanked the gathering for their token of good will.
Mr. Frank Solomon, one of the Auckland members of the All Black team which leaves next Friday for Australia, was this morning presented by the staff of Messrs. Saxgood, Son, and Ewen, Limited, with an Onehunga travelling rug bearing his initials and a fernleaf. The warehouse manager, Mr. Shaw, in making 'the presentation, wished Mr. Solomon every success. Sargoods, he said, had been prominently represented in many branches of sport, notably by C. S. Dempster, but Mr. Solomon was the first All Black the firm had produced. He was confident thai; the All Black team would do well and that Air. Solomon would carry off his share of the honours.
Members of the football club at the Auckland University College took advantage of the informal "coffee evening" held by the students at the college last evening to make a presentation to Mr. T. H. C. Caughey, who is one of the new "All Blacks." Mr. Caughey plays centre-three-quarter for the 'Varsity Club. Professor J. A. Bartrum made the guest of the evening a presentation of an inscribed tobacco pouch, and congratulated him on his success.
