INSTANT DECISION.

TEACHER FOR. PAPAKURA. SCHOOXj VISITED BY HON. R. MASTERS. CONGESTION OF CLASSES. The unusual practice of a Minister making an instant decision regarding the appointment of a teacher occurred at the Papakura primary school this morning when tlie Hon. R. Masters, M.L.C., Minister of Education, called there to investigate a complaint that certain classes were congested and that an extra teacher was needed. The Minister agreed, after seeing the classes, that an additional teacher should be sent to the

,-hool as soon as the Auckland Education Board could arrange to do eo. This morning Mr. Masters was on his way to Waihi, where tlie new intermediate school will be opened this afternoon. He was accompanied by Messrs. A. M. Samuel, M.P. for Thames, A. Burns, chairman of the Auckland Education Board, and Mr. D. W. Dunlop, secretary of the Auckland Education Board. On arriving at the Papakura school the Minister was welcomed by Mr. J. Rea, a member of the Papakura School Committee, and Mr. J. E. Elliott, the headmaster of the school. It was mentioned that the chairman of the school committee, the Rev. W. C. Wood, was in Wellington on hospital business. Speakers pointed out that there were G3 pupils in Standard 1., 56 in Standard 11., and 60 in Standard in. The Minister's decision was received with gratification, and Mr. Rea thanked him for the prompt way in which he had dealt with the matter.
