NEED AT HIKURANGI.
MEAT DRIVES BY FARMERS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this clay. Tlie farmers of three districts, Mania, Aponga. and Opuawhanga, arc organising with the intention of conducting a. series of meat drives for the poor and needy of Hikuraugi, and it is expected that the movement will be under way this week. It has been reported that between 100 and 150 Ilikurangi residents arc very hard up, and the farmers of these three districts formed the idea of supplying the needy with their surplus stocks of meat. Mr. .T. P. Harrison, of Marua, sail eacli district estimated that it could supply between 17001b and ISOOIb of meat weekly, and it was intended that they should take week about in sending theb' supplies to Ilikurangi. Those in need would be allowed about 41b of meat per week. The organisation did not intend to bar strikers and if they need aid it will be given to them.
